Hockey Helps the Homeless
Each fall, the Piller’s Waterloo Wolves’ Alumni Team (plus one or two guest pro hockey players) takes part in the fundraiser, Hockey Helps the Homeless, to help raise money to aid the homeless and marginalized in our community.
Sleep Tight
In 2015, the Wolves collected PJs at their home games in December for the Sleep Tight Campaign. Over 50 pairs of sleepwear were donated and presented to to Meaghan Coneybeare, creator and Chair of Sleep Tight.
The PJs were then delivered to the Waterloo Region Police Services, who assist Sleep Tight in distributing the PJs to those in need in our community.
Big Brother Big Sister KW
For a number of seasons the Wolves welcomed “littles” along with their Big Brothers and Big Sisters to attend special games, enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn. We also hosted skates with the team and pizza parties.
Hero to Hero
From 2009 to 2013, the Waterloo Wolves teamed up with Hero to Hero.
Hero to Hero was a non-political organization that matched emergency services personnel and sports teams with Canadian troops serving overseas.
The personnel or teams from Canada sent autographed shirts and other goodies to the troops, showing their support for the members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Photos of Wolves’ jerseys and Support the Troops banner in Dubai, UAE and in the Arabian Sea on the HMCS Toronto were shared in the April 2013 edition of Wolf Talk.
The Hero to Hero program is dissolving in 2013. Thank you to Kevin McHarg, National Director of Hero to Hero Team Canada, on your enthusiastic dedication to Hero to Hero. We were proud to be a part of your program.
